The second day of our trip was way better than the first. We woke up with another dip in the rotenburo, then had breakfast. It was a buffet, which is usually not a good thing. But this totally beat the socks off of any hotel buffet breakfast I've had before. A huge array of food, with western, Japanese, and Chinese foods, and lots of fresh fruit. We ate enough to make up for last night's dinner, and then we ate some more. And then a bit more. We ended up so stuffed we had to go back to our rooms and rest again. Hideaki even had another nap. Holy crap can that guy ever sleep.
When we were able to move again we took a walk around the vast hotel grounds. A hiking path led through forests, picnic and camping grounds, and down to a beach with some dramatic rock formations. And signs all over the place warning about jellyfish (wish I'd seen them yesterday).
After that we drove up the coast to Shinmaiko Kogan Beach and spent the afternoon there. I noticed some people were in the water and there were no jellyfish signs, so despite yesterday's trauma I ventured into the water. It was fantastic, and no jellyfish. And for some reason that day there were some decent-sized waves, which is rare for inside Tokyo Bay. I felt like a little girl playing in the water, and vowed to go to more beaches next summer.
We also made a pretty good sandcastle, but the waves destroyed it before we could get a picture. But it looked just like this one. Then we headed to a cute beachside restaurant for a bite to eat. Hideaki had a banana-ice-cream-crepe and iced coffee, and I had a beer and sauteed flounder. God it was good. Far better than anything I'd expect in a tourist area of Japan. The place also operates as a minshuku (B&B), so I think I know where we're staying next year.

Thanks Carlyn. Yup, a bonafide palm tree! They're not too rare here, I even see them in people's gardens in Tokyo! But they look much nicer on the beach.
Thank you Vanda. Oh my, there's nothing like a cold glass of draught beer on a hot day at the beach...
Kat, thanks!
